The Center for Applied Research on Risks to Democracy
Our vision
We work to identify the challenges that threaten the stability of democracy in Israel, to develop effective mechanisms to strengthen public trust in government institutions, and to promote innovative solutions based on in-depth research, with feedback and close cooperation with civil society

Laboratory
Democratic oversight of security agencies in Israel
In every democracy, there is a tension between the need for a strong and effective military to protect the country and the fear of its influence on civilian rule. The most extreme threat is a military coup, but there are also other threats, such as the military refusing to follow orders or its influence on the national agenda in indirect ways.
Laboratory
Democratic oversight of the design of the welfare state in Israel
Comparative studies show that the welfare state plays a significant role in creating and maintaining institutional and social trust. Impartial and efficient government management allows citizens to trust that they will be treated fairly and that the system will not be exploited for special interests.
