Dr. Dana Alexander is a lawyer specializing in the crisis of democracy and liberal constitutionalism. Her doctoral dissertation (Tel Aviv University, 2021) deals with public opposition to legal human rights struggles in Israel in the years 2000-2015. Dana has published academic and public articles on the topics of the legitimacy crisis of liberal constitutionalism, blind spots in the liberal rights discourse, the public struggle in Israel around legal legislation, polarization and populism. Her background is from the worlds of social change: she served as a lawyer and as the director of the legal department at the Association for Civil Rights and as the VP of the Accord Center. She has also taken part as a leader and participant in dialogue processes that seek to understand deep gaps between worldviews. In recent years, her main area of interest has been democratic renewal as a way to deal with the crisis of liberal democracy, and she has developed a number of initiatives in this context. Dana is interested in the seam between academic research and social change, and in translating research insights into impact on the political-social reality.
