Dr. Yael Shomer

Dr. Yael Shomer is a senior researcher at the School of Political Science, Government and International Relations at Tel Aviv University. She researches in the fields of comparative politics and political institutions, and specializes in the politics of legislatures, general election methods and intra-party candidate selection, parties and quantitative research methods. Her research examines the impact of political institutions on the behavior of politicians and voter behavior. Shomer has published numerous articles in leading journals in political science, and has won numerous grants, including from the National Science Foundation and the European Union. She was recently announced by the organization Apolitical as one of the 50 researchers whose work will influence politicians in the 21st century.


Before her academic career, Yael was the secretary to the late Governor of the Bank of Israel, David Klein, and was responsible for projects at the Center for Child Welfare.


Yael Shomer completed her doctoral studies at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, and earned a master's degree (with honors) and a bachelor's degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
