Dr. Avner Rogel

Dr. Avner Rogel is a researcher in the Department of International and Intercultural Studies at the School of Education, Columbia University. His research focuses on the activism of educators and youth and their interactions with educational institutions and social systems, drawing on the sociology of education and comparative and international education, while also drawing from critical theory and cultural studies. His doctoral dissertation, written at the Hebrew University, examined how educators implement queer pedagogy in different organizational and ideological contexts in Israel. In his current postdoctoral research, he shifts the focus to youth, broadens his perspective to additional countries, and examines their civic engagement and their interface with socio-political processes and their impact on democracy.
